Yunnan (Color)
I took a vacation in China, and my first destination was Yunnan.
While in Yunnan I mostly stayed in Kunming, but I had the chance to visit Luoping county and Jianshui county.
Nowadays Yunnan has become a hot destination for those who are “lying flat” in China for its laidback lifestyle and affordability, and I definitely see its appeal, it has a comfortable climate, and is abundant in produce, culturally diverse, well-urbanized in towns while still retaining the rural charm in the countryside.
I especially enjoyed the food there, they were always in large portions, my favorites are rice noodles, mushroom hotpot, flower cakes, and fried dried beef with mint.
While in Kunming I visited Dianchi lake and caught up with black-headed seagulls that were about to leave for Siberia. I also went to parks to see the cherry blossoms.
I was also lucky to catch the blooming season of rapeseed flowers in the mountains of Luoping, where the rapeseed fields just seemed endless. The Jiulong waterfalls were also cool, it was a lot of climbing but worth it.
While in Jianshui I visited the historical sites like Tuanshan village and Double Dragon Bridge, and collected water from the ancient Daban Well that the locals use to make tofu to brew tea, I recall it had a distinct sweet taste.
I enjoyed my time in Yunnan immensely, and I’m definitely planning on visiting again, there’s so much more to see and experience.
